Supporting Charities in 2024
Every year church supports two specific charities with one being a local charity and the other a charity working abroad.
This year we are supporting:
Willow Burn Hospice is our local charity this year. Willow Burn is a small hospice and community hub in Lanchester, which was founded over thirty years ago by two local women who recognised a need for improved end of life care for residents of rural County Durham.
Willow Burn, aims to relieve physical and emotional distress, control symptoms and provide care, comfort and compassion at the end of life. This is achieved through our range of holistic day care, in-patient and family support and bereavement counselling services.
The charity working abroad this year is Toilet Twinning.
Money we raise will fund community projects helping families to build their own basic toilet, access clean water and learn about hygiene - a vital combination saving lives
Toilet Twinning funds global water, sanitation and hygiene programmes run by Tearfund. Tearfund’s partners work alongside communities, bringing people together in workshops and action groups focused on issues that concern them – such as farming.
Lasting, whole-life transformation comes from working alongside someone, not making decisions on their behalf. Toilet Twinning’s approach is about dignity and self-respect as much as it is about alleviating poverty and accessing safe sanitation.
Some of our other charity activities
Food banks Donations of food, toiletries and cleaning materials for the Food Banks can be brought to church on Monday and Wednesday mornings from 11am -12noon.
In addition to the named charities we also respond when there are global and local issues and every Christmas we collect toys for the Salvation Army Toy Appeal and shoeboxes for the Samaritan's Purse appeal.
Coffee mornings, normally held on Saturday mornings, also raise money for a variety of charities and local organisations.
